Sheep Creek Back Country Lodge
& Cabins
Sheep Creek Lodge is a true wilderness experience - but with modern comfort
and warmth! Located about 24 km north of Grande Cache, just getting there
is part of the experience! Deep in the heart of wilderness, you will travel
down gravel roads, hike up a trail, and even cross a suspension bridge
to get to the cabins. Seeking peace and tranquility? Here's where to find
it.
what is the back country?
an authentic wilderness
location: The cabin facility is located 14 km off the main highway,
it's off the power grid, and far from the modern world. You will not find
phones, televisions, or computers in this wilderness escape - just quiet.
There are some conveniences to make your stay more enjoyable, but it's
simple enough to return you to a more natural rhythm.
getting there
You can drive to within about 1 km of the cabins. Traveling north on Hwy
40 from Grande Cache, you will travel 8 km on the paved highway, then
head onto gravel for an additional 14 km. (detailed driving map). An escort
(you follow us in your car) from town is available if you book ahead,
but only once per day. Please inquire about an escort when you book. At
the parking area, a sign points the way down the trail to Sheep Creek
(the river). If you have given an accurate arrival time, staff will meet
you at the parking area. Your bags will be transported for you on an ATV
(One bag/person, one 40lb cooler/party of 4). Groups that exceed our luggage
allotment will be charged $20 per trip for the ATV, or you can carry your
extra things in. See a list of what to bring.
From the parking area it is about less than a kilometer
walk to the suspension bridge. The river
is only about 40 ft wide, and the bridge is very secure. This takes you
to the site, and your lovely cabin awaits!
the cabins
Sheep Creek consists of four individual cabins nestled on the banks of
the beautiful Sheep Creek. All cabins have their own kitchen, living
room, and front deck. The Big Cabin has 5 separate bedrooms (3 doubles
and 2 singles), a big kitchen and
living room. Our water supply is local source and gravity fed, toilets
are either chemical, composting, or outhouses. Showers are inside the
cabin (plus one outdoor shower), but the water must be heated first in
the kitchen on a propane stove. There is also a wash-house with 2 conventional
showers and a sauna. Each cabin has propane stoves. There is one centralized
propane fridge plus two freezers. All dishes, utensils, etc. are supplied.
The cabins are heated by wood-stoves, and all firewood is supplied.
