keeping it safe
Wild Blue Yonder is dedicated to maintaining the highest possible safety
standards at all times. We exceed Canadian draft federal rafting standards,
and adhere to standards from the Professional River Outfitters Association
of Alberta. Our guides hold appropriate licenses in accordance with the
draft Federal Rafting Standards. All guides hold Swiftwater Rescue Certification,
valid First Aid (trip leaders have Wilderness First Aid). Our team leader
holds Advanced Wilderness First Aid and is a Swiftwater Rescue Instructor.
Each season, our guides run through yearly training programs to sharpen
their skills of rafting & river rescue. Our vehicle drivers are all
licensed appropriately and have first aid training. We have an extensive
Risk Management and Emergency Response Plan in place.
Does this mean we guarantee your safety?
No, there is ALWAYS risk involved in a river environment, or even driving
to the river. We endeavor to match guests with trips that are suited to
their abilities, and we always err on the side of caution when assessing
risk. We are well-trained to deal with incidents, and have never had a
serious injury. However, not all risks are within our control, so our
insurance company does require all guests to sign waivers and assumption
of risk agreements. Scouting groups are an exception to this, please inquire.
If you have concerns about our liability, please ask us and we can provide
more detailed information.
how do we compare to other rafting companies?
We think we are the best!! Seriously, though, there are fly-by-night operators
out there that are simply not safe to go with. Quality companies usually
hold professional associations (see below), have professional looking
advertising materials and can provide references upon request. Shady operators
are usually indicated by very low prices, poor quality advertising materials,
and usually do not carry insurance. If in doubt, ask to see copies of
insurance and references.
other stuff
Although river permits are not available in our area, we do hold authorization
permits or access agreements with the Province of Alberta, Savage Rail
and Grande Cache Coal. We also carry 2 million liability insurance on
trips & vehicles. We are active in promoting sustainable, accountable
tourism development. We support and contribute to our local community
through charitable donations and leadership in tourism development.
professional affiliations
One of the best ways to determine the quality of an outfitter is if they
possess membership in professional associations - which we do! Wild Blue
Yonder Adventure Tours Ltd. holds membership with the Professional River
Outfitters Association of Alberta.
